SOCIO-ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY There is agreement that theory must match the practice to achieve
consistency, yet there is not a well accepted socio-environmental
sustainability theory to deal with socio-environmental sustainability
failures. Due to this, non-system thinking is being used to address
systematic problems. In my opinion, this inconsistency between additive
theory and systematic practice must be eliminated. In other words, how can we
expect to solve systematic problems using non-system based theoretical
tools? As it can be seen on the figure, there can be socio-environmental sustainability. However, for socio-environmental sustainability to exist, we must assume either that economic sustainability exist at the same time or that the economy is a passive component of the system ready available for the sole purpose of fulfilling socio-environmental goals. The above provides a different way of looking at socio-environmental development issues. The work presented or expected in this section deals with socio-environmental sustainability theory and issues and ideas on how to develop practical applications. The work is divided in four categories: a) published work; b) work being evaluated/reviewed or on the way to publication; c) draft work available for evaluation/revision; and d) work in progress or planned. Links to servers where published work is available as well as abstracts are provided when possible.
